A brand identity and online hub to showcase the heart of the advertising industry

The Advertising Association promotes the role and rights of responsible advertising and
its value to society a by acting as the connection between industry professionals and policymakers.

The Advertising Association approached Hex Studio needing a refresh on their brand
identity and creation of a new website, to make them the go-to hub for all UK advertising’s industry news, research and events.

The brief was to elevate rather than recreate. The Advertising Association brand is the sum of all their parts: Their work, services and people. 

We took the brand’s  ‘A’ and made it a window into the creative world of advertising by showcasing inspirational people, captivating photography and world renowned adverts.

Website design and build

As part of the rebrand project we were asked to merge three corporate sites into a new, easy to access hub.

Phase 1: Discovery and content strategy – First we collected all existing content and conducted a content workshop. From this we created the brand strategy and system that would help not only the website build but the organisation as a whole.

Phase 2: Site structure and wireframing (User experience) – From there we built out the wireframes, looking at what functionality needed to be added and where. These were then made into a clickable prototype so the team and target audiences could test functionality.

Phase 3: Visual application (User interface) –  From an approved prototype we then looked to apply the brand identify – adding colour, imagery and animation.

Phase 4: Development and testing – Development was started after the prototype was tested and sign off. Content from the old site was then migrated and the build went back for testing, with any refinements sent for testing with a sample group of users.

Phase 5: Training and maintenance – Upon site launch we held CMS training sessions and produced an interactive PDF user manual for the team to reference and share with any new starters. A small monthly retainer was also set-up to enable any help and tweaks needed at a priority rate and response time.

Front Foot Member portal

Front Foot is the UK advertising industry’s members network. Following the site launch we worked with the team to scope and develop a member portal. The aim of this was to be able to offer premium content to paying members, as well as capture insights on what was most popular and valuable on the site.

Key development features included:

  • An easy member registration process, working from a client-managed database of approved member domains
  • Personalised login page and greeting
  • Ability for members to select relevant interests and have the most up to date content recommended to them, as well as save articles from across the site to their profile page
  • Data capture on member use and readership across the site

Workstream campaigns

For key workstreams we designed and built custom hubs and campaign assets, allowing for larger amounts of information and resources to be communicated, as well as showcasing their individual visual identities.

How we do it:

  • Create research reports (print & digital)
  • Develop campaign brand identities and assets for specific work streams, e.g. climate action, inclusion. This includes creating sub-identities with their own logos, imagery and micro-sites.
  • Design banners, adverts and animations for the main homepage and social media platforms directing people to an event or campaign
